Evolution Studios has claimed the movie Drive as a big inspiration behind the gameplay.ĭriveclub is focusing on the social aspect of racing, allowing you to create and race in teams. In fact, the game is best compared to GRID 2, with the developer being hesitant to classify the game as a "racing simulation" at all. While both games do focus on track-based racing, Driveclub will be more arcade-like in its feel, enabling beginners to the racing genre to quickly get a handle on the game. With the PlayStation 4, that time is now.ĭriveclub is a racing video game that at first glance, looks like it has a lot in common with Gran Turismo. Taking the stage at the PlayStation 4 conference, a representative of Evolution Studios claims that this game is “one they've always wanted to make” with the company even going so far to trademark the name nine years ago the only thing stopping Evolution Studios from making this game was waiting for the technology to catch up to their vision. Evolution Studios is bringing that love of cars and racing to the PlayStation 4 with Driveclub, a brand new racing property exclusive to the PlayStation 4 as Evolution Studios is a part of Sony. While Evolution Studios may not be a household name, PlayStation fans will recognize them as the team behind MotorStorm and previously, a large number of games in the World Rally Championship series. Some of these games were new franchises in existing properties, while some, like Evolution Studios' Driveclub, are completely new properties.

Earlier this year we also found out that Starblood Arena will be going offline in July.At the PlayStation 4 conference held on February, we not only laid witness to the unveiling of the console, but to some of the games that would launch with, or near, the system itself. This isn’t the first Sony-published PSVR game to be decommissioned. For our money, Dirt Rally and Wipeout: The Omega Collection are probably the best, most complete driving games on the platform. Gran Turismo Sport’s PSVR support is bare bones to say the least and other games that have PC VR support like Project CARS don’t support PSVR.

However, without online play, PSVR is now lacking a full racing simulator to call its own.

The game did get a physical release so it won’t be completely eradicated from existence. It may still be worth playing without the online features just for the experience alone. We were quite fond of it come release, despite some stripped back visuals. The game largely ported the cars and tracks seen in the original version to VR with online multiplayer. Limited single-player features will remain, however.ĭriveclub VR was released alongside PSVR in October 2016. They’ll be going offline in March 2020, at which point you won’t be able to play the game online anymore. As you may have guessed, Sony is decommissioning the game’s online servers. The game is a VR adaptation of Evolution Studios’ Driveclub, which is also being pulled from the store on that day along with Driveclub Bikes. The Sony-published Driveclub VR will be pulled from the PlayStation Store on August 31st. One of PSVR’s premiere racing games will no longer be available to buy digitally soon.
